The Vast Spaciousness of Natural Clarity – A Direct Awareness Practice
July 1 @ 7:00 pm - July 10 @ 12:00 pm$1,450
In the later period of Indian Buddhism, masters living outside the established framework of the monastic system developed simple yet powerful methods of meditation practice. These practices lead to the realization of the mind’s fundamental nature in this life and came to be known as the Direct Awareness teachings. Beginning in the 9th century, these teachings were transmitted to Tibet and were further refined for the next 1,000 years.
The Direct Awareness Teachings which include both the Mahamudra (Great Seal) and Dzog Chen (Great Completion) teachings do not rely on the complex symbolism that characterizes many Tibetan teachings and practices. Rather, what is of supreme importance in these teachings is the moment-to-moment experience of the meditator. The fundamental skill in approaching these teachings is developing the ability to be fully present with what arises in experience in every moment of existence.
During the first part of the retreat, we will focus on some of the essential skills that are necessary to bring these teachings into your actual experience. The main part of the retreat will be devoted to a close reading of a short text by the 19th century Dzog Chen master Ju Mipham Jampal Dorje. In this short text, he covers all of the essential points bringing for these teachings into your life in every moment.
The cost of the retreat is $1,450 which includes single room accommodations, all meals, teachings and interviews. If you wish to participate, please send a $100 deposit to Dan Jorgensen, 13118 Thistledown Court, Auburn, CA 95603. The balance is due by May 31st.
