The Three Essential Points: Introduction and Refinement of Awakened Awareness
June 28 @ 7:00 pm - July 8 @ 11:00 am$1,450
In the later period of Indian Buddhism, masters living outside the established framework of the monastic system developed simple yet powerful methods of meditation practice. These practices lead to the realization of the mind’s fundamental nature in this life and came to be known as the Direct Awareness teachings. Beginning in the 9th century, these teachings were transmitted to Tibet and were further refined for the next 1,000 years.
Rather than relying on complex symbolism and rituals, these methods place great emphasis on working directly with our moment-to-moment experience. Everything that we experience—sense perceptions, body sensations, thoughts and emotions—is included in practice and become stepping stones on the path. Delusion, which is based on habitual conceptualization, is gradually stripped away allowing the true nature of mind and experience shine forth.
During the first part of the retreat, we will focus on a series of structured meditations that are designed to establish the basis for awakening to our true nature. The teachings and practices in the later part of the retreat will be based on a short meditation text by 19th century Tibetan master Patrul Rinpoche. This short text includes all of the essential points of practice for the progressive refinement and unfolding of meditative experience and its expression in everyday life.
The cost of the retreat is $1,450 which includes single room accommodations, all meals, teachings and interviews. If you wish to participate, please send a $100 deposit to Dan Jorgensen, 13118 Thistledown Court, Auburn, CA 95603. The balance is due by May 24th.
