Letting the Dust Settle: Resting and Insight Meditation
April 14, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - April 17, 2016 @ 1:00 pm$445
In the Tibetan traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, insight meditation means developing the ability to look deeply into consciousness. At the preliminary level of insight practice, the intention is to dismantle the many false notions that each of us carry about the nature of self and the world. The result of this type of meditation in daily practice and retreats is that we eventually come face to face with what is called “the true nature of the mind.” We make the discovery that just below the surface agitation of obsessive rumination and thinking, the mind in its deepest nature is perfectly clear, peaceful and at rest.
Over the centuries, Tibetan masters developed several different methods of insight practice which include holding various questions (“does the mind have a color, “does it originate at any point in time”) or simply looking directly into consciousness itself. Before beginning insight meditation, meditators were trained in calming meditation which was intended to deal with the mind’s inherent tendency towards continual thinking and conceptualization.
In this retreat, we will combine these two types of meditation using resting in moment-to-moment experience as the basis of the practice. Detailed teachings and guided meditations will be given on resting with the body, sense perceptions, emotions and reactive patterns. We have found that developing the ability to be fully present with whatever arises in the stream of experience is simple and effect method of realizing the mind’s true nature which is often referred to as the Natural State.
The cost of the retreat is $445 which includes single room accommodations, all meals, teachings and private interviews.
